Motorcycle license

Well, I've just started my motorcycle lessons. (Got back from Indonesia not so long ago where they are all the rage...)

Really enjoying learning to ride for the first time on a two-wheeler. Because we have great weather here with little rain, can ride for most of the year once I have my license and a bike.

If possible take your test on a smaller bike, not sure what you have but when I took mine, there were 20 of us, only 4 got their liscence cause everyone else had borrowed the bikes and they were too big for them!!!

They're pretty organised here, they will make us sit the test on a 250cc which they can supply which is the same size bike we train with. Currently using a Honda CBF250 for training.

Apparently the test is a beatch however, they are very very strict that you have mastered the bike and riding as too many young people wipe themselves off early on. Getting failed numerous times is not unusual before a pass.

that's cool, I took mine on a crx/cb 350, think it was a kawasaki...long time ago, it was so tiny, my 2003 ninja is a 250 and it's twice the size of that old one....also have a 2007 vtx1300c

That vtx is a big bike alright.

What would you recommend for my first 250cc, I was thinking either a Kawasaki or Honda, I want to try and pick up a second-hand bike that was at least built this decade 2000>. Probably looking for a sport bike, but I don't mind the look of some naked bikes too.

I suppose it depends, how long have you been riding? I had been riding about 8 years before getting my license. I only got the small bike because I didn't have any money. I paid about 3 hundred for it.

Also what style do you like? Sport or cafe (cafe is the one you sit straight up or slightly back)

I like both, but prefer the vtx.

If you are new to riding then definatly go with smaller. Also I think A lot of the scooters go about 80 and also get great gas milage...my vtx only gets about 25 -30 - my saab gets better gas milage. So it would also depend on why you want one.

So things to ask your self...
1) Why are you getting a bike? (save gas, because it's fun)
2) How long have you been riding? (if new go with small bike - not nessesarily low cc's older bikes have smaller frames and body sizes)

3) How much can I afford?

4) Where do you live?
(can you ride all year or ar you in New England and only get a few months)

With all that said, my favorite bike is the suzuki gsx1100R - That bike makes me all hot and bothered!!!!

I have the bikes I d cuz my girl bought them for me for my birthdays....
You know what they say don't look a gift bike in the exhaust!:D

One more thing....a lot of riders cannot ride that much so older bikes are not that bad to buy, my 2003 ninja 250 ex has about 1500 miles on it, my 2007 vtx has about 300 miles on it - if that much!

Just check out the bike, see how many miles on it, who owned it...some meat head looking kid - probably beat on....

Too true. A low mileage 2000+ Ninja 250 would do the trick, Honda or Yamaha also acceptable. I figure if the bike is relatively new and low mileage, I won't have to spend lots of time fixing it.

I'm in Australia, looking in the $4500 range. Most of the year is open to riding as we have great weather here.
